A couple of years back to kill some time I went to an exhibition in Glenrothes in Fife, the free bus pass always helps. As usual I got lost using Google Maps but eventually found the place and it was what I expected, mostly men of a certain age; this may have resided in the back of my mind because in July 2025 I actually did some research and made a trip to my second exhibition in St Andrews, which is four hours away.  Unfortunately you do not see the famous links and in my opinion the town is a mess but I did see some layouts which were mostly way too big but this did suggest the scale I should go for, which is N Gauge, the ratio is 1/148, which equates to 1 foot on the model is 12 feet in real life.

A few weeks later I went to another exhibition at George Watson College in Edinburgh, a school very similar in style to St Joseph's, long corridors and marble floors. I think this is where I decided to take the plunge.

My next trip was researching model shops. These are few and far between but I eventually visited Ronnie in Uddingston, also famous for Tunnocks teacakes and I bought my first set.
